Ford looking for new racing challenges

With three championships under his belt in karting, Kyle Ford is looking for a new experience this year with the Kenyon Midget Series. Ford, 17, a junior at Whiteland Community High School, started karting in 2009 and won championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He was named the junior driver of the year in 2018 at the road course karting track in New Castle.
“My entire career has been in karting,” he said. “My dad took me to a race at Whiteland and I fell in love with racing.”
Ford said he made the decision to compete with the Kenyon Midget Series to try something new. He will turn his first laps in a Kenyon Midget at the March 27 test session at Anderson Speedway. Ford said he has never stepped foot either as a competitor or fan at a dirt track.
“I'm really excited about the dirt races,” he said. “Looking forward to racing at Gas City.” Ford said everything connected with the Kenyon Midget Series will be a new experience in racing. “I'm really looking forward to it,” he said.
Ford is hoping to have a future career in racing either with the IndyCar Series or in NASCAR. “I prefer IndyCar,” he explained.
After completing high school, Ford is considering either attending a 4-year college or to learn a trade.
“I just wanted to get into a car,” Ford said of the decision to take the next step from karting.
