Taylor Tecco enters 2023 with more confidence

By Ken de la Bastide

As one of the youngest drivers competing with the Kenyon Midget Series last year Taylor Tecco had to learn a new form of racing and seek to gain confidence. Tecco, 16, a sophomore at Buckeye High School in Medina, Ohio, is looking forward to a second full-time season with the Kenyon Midget Series.

“Last year I was so much younger than everyone else,” she said. “They all had more skills than I did.”

Tecco came to the series last year with a background in kart racing. She also admitted that mentally some of the racing accidents suffered by more seasoned competitors had an impact on her. “I'm definitely more prepared this year,” Taylor said. “I'm a little more confident every time we race.”

She said her brother, Tanner, who picked up the “Most Improved Driver” honors in 2022 has provided some assistance. “He helps me out some times,” Taylor said. “He will test out a new line or set-up and if it works, I try it out.”

Taylor said she likes racing on pavement tracks more than the dirt ovals and was quick to admit that Mt. Lawn Speedway was her least favorite track. “I like how we do both pavement and dirt,” she said. “I did like racing at Anderson.”

With the series competing at Lorain Speedway, the closest track to where the Tecco's reside, Taylor said she has never been to the track. Her dad Mike said Taylor's car is ready for the 2023 season and the family is working on Tanner's car presently. Mike said they will try to turn some practice laps at Lorain before the season starts.
