2022 Rulebook

Our rulebook has been updated for the 2022 season of the Kenyon Midget Series. While our goal was to not make any significant changes, we have listened to feedback from many of our competitors. And based on this feedback we are making a few clarifications and updates to the rulebook. These updates are effective for the 2022 season. It is the responsibility of every driver and team to know the rules, and show up to the track with a legal race car. If there are any questions, please reach out BEFORE the season starts so we can be sure to clarify any questions you may have.

I will summarize the main updates below, and provide some context for why we decided to make these changes.

  • 4.5.5 refers to brakes. Several drivers have asked that we allow for the removal of the right front brake for dirt races. We have decided to allow this. All cars must have both front brakes functioning for pavement races. But for dirt races, we will allow the right front brake to be disabled and/or removed. You will be allowed to remove the caliper, rotor, and brake line from the right front. But the rest of the right front hub and the rest of the braking system must remain unchanged to facilitate an easy switch back to pavement setup. We see this as a rule change that does not incur any additional cost. Just a little bit of labor if you decide to remove the RF brake for dirt. It should also make the cars handle better on corner entry and help reduce some of the understeer that too much RF braking can cause on the dirt.

  • 4.6.8 refers to shocks. The previous rule had some reference to adjustable shocks which was meant to allow for non-Kenyon Focus cars to run with our series. Many of those cars did have adjustable shocks. For the 2022 season, we do not have any events planned where we will run alongside non-Kenyon cars. Therefore, we have simplified this rule to simply stat that externally adjustable shocks are not allowed. We still allow different internal valving to be used. But in an effort to keep cost and complexity under control, we do not see a need to allow externally adjustable shocks.

  • 4.7.5 refers to body panels added to the “A-section” of the frame, above the rear shocks. It has never been clearly defined in the rules. Some cars have run panels here in the past. And a few drivers have asked about the legality of this. So we have decided to allow panels to be added here. But they must not extend beyond the specified frame rails, and can not have any lips, gurneys, or other shape to create an aerodynamic advantage. They also must not extend further out around the side opening of the roll cage. Our reasoning for allowing this additional bodywork is to give the cars an updated look, and it also gives some more area for sponsor stickers. These panels will be optional. You don’t have to add them if you don’t want to. If you do decide to add these panels, please check the rule to make sure your comply.

  • The rulebook also previously referred to non-Kenyon cars in several places. As we do not plan to allow non-Kenyon cars to run directly against us, we have removed these references from the rulebook.

  • Other changes are minor wording and formatting updates.

I encourage all of our drivers and teams to download and read through the rulebook. It is your responsibility to comply with all of the 2022 Competition Rules. You can download the new rulebook from our RULES page.
