USSA has long history with Lucas Oil Little 500

By Ken de la Bastide

It has taken place on the final Saturday of the month of May for the past 74 years, the world's most prestigious pavement sprint car race. When the field of 33 non-wing Sprint Cars take the green flag for the Lucas Oil Little 500 on May 28 at Anderson Speedway, the USSA will once again be a part of the event.

The USSA started as a special sanctioning body for the Little 500 in 2013. Since that time Kody Swanson has won three Little 500 championships, Jacob Wilson has visited victory lane twice with Chris Windom, Nick Hamilton, Bobby Santos III and Tyler Roahrig all winning.

But the involvement of the USSA goes beyond a special sanction for the Little 500, over the years and again in 2022 there are numerous drivers that have competed either in the Kenyon Midgets or other USSA events. This year's entry list includes Brian Gerster, Caleb Armstrong, Issac Chappel, Aaron Pierce and rookie of the year contender Dalton Armstrong.

Other Kenyon Midget drivers to have competed in the Little 500 include Nick Hamilton, Kyle Hamilton, Trey Osborne, and two-time Kenyon Midget champion Dameron Taylor.
