Tight points battle heads to Anderson

By Ken de la Bastide

Three races into the 2022 season for the Kenyon Midget Series has produced a trio of winners and other drivers making their mark. Two former champions are looking for another title and have visited victory lane this season. Dameron Taylor, the all-time leader in wins at Anderson Speedway, won the opening race of the season on the high banked quarter-mile oval. He was followed by Jack Macenko and Trey Osborne with Dave Osborn taking home rookie of the race honors.

The Anderson track always produces exciting side by side racing with the outcome of the races not determined until the closing laps. Taylor took the lead at the start and was chased by Macenko for much of the 30-lap feature in the season opening race. Macenko stayed glued to Taylor's tail-tank until lap 26 when Macenko and Clayton Gaines tangled while battling for second. Both drivers were able to continue, but lost two positions in the process. Macenko was able to pass Trey Osborne for the runner-up position on lap 29 with Gaines recovering to finish fourth followed by Ryan Huggler.

Osborne comes to Anderson this Saturday with a slim two-point margin over Macenko with Taylor currently third 66 points behind the leader.

Osborne recorded the victory at the Montpelier Speedway with Thomas Schrage and Matt Lux rounding out the top three. Schrage was the Advanced Racing Suspensions Hard Charger and rookie of the race.

At Gas City I-69 Speedway it was Macenko's turn to claim the win followed by Osborne and Ryan Huggler. Taylor spun late in the race and finished eighth. Clayton Gaines was named Hard Charger and Osborn picked up his second rookie of the race honors.

Through the first three events, Osborne has not finished outside the top three and has two heat race wins to his credit.

Macenko has a fourth place showing at Montpelier to go along with two podium finishes and two heat race wins.
