Mother Nature ends competitive Shadybowl return
Before the rain washed out the Kenyon Midget Series feature at the Shadybowl Speedway the fans were going to see a thrilling race.
It became apparent during hot laps on the uniquely shaped oval that the drivers with the series quickly adopted with point leader Jack Macenko turning a 13.4-second lap in hot laps. The next eight cars all clocked in at 13.6-seconds.
Part-time competitor Andrew Patterson became the fifth different driver to earn the K&K Marketing Fast Qualifier award with a time of 13.64-seconds, topping Jackson Macenko by 6-thousandths of a second.
Patterson also recorded his first heat race win of the year holding off Dameron Taylor by 2-tenths of second with Thomas Schrage coming home in third in the KRJ Race Products sponsored heat. The Hoosier Auto Racing Fans in honor of Shadybowl official Brian Rauch awarded Patterson with $100 for the heat race win.
Clayton Gaines got a good start in the second heat after starting thirdand led the first seven circuits before Macenko scored his sixth heat win of the season. The Kenyon Midget Series matched the $100 to the winner for the second KRJ Race Products heat race.
Patterson drew a four for the feature inversion which put Gaines on the pole followed by Taylor, Macenko and Patterson when the rain washed out the event.
Kyle Ford closed to within one-point of Dave Osborn for rookie of the year honors. Ford qualified fourth and Osborn seventh. In the second heat race Ford finished third with Osborn coming home in fourth.
The next race is Sept. 4 at the Circle City Raceway dirt oval in Indianapolis.
