Lorain promises tight racing

For the third time this season the Kenyon Midget Series will be visiting a new track and it's one that is expected to bring close competition. The first new track the series visited was Berlin Raceway in Michigan with the 500 Sprint Car Tour and now the series travels to Lorain Raceway Park in the Buckeye State with the sprint cars.

Tanner Tecco, a first time winner at Circle City Raceway, closed out Dirty August on a hot streak with three podium finishes in four races. Tecco and his sister, Taylor, have tested on the three-eighths mile oval. “It's different,” Tanner said of the Lorain track. “You're constantly turning on the back straight. Turn one is completely different from turns three and four,” he said. “It's a technical track.”

Tecco said the track offers plenty of room for racing. “It's a little bit of both Anderson and Berlin,” he said of Lorain. “The banking is not like Anderson, so it's closer to the way Berlin is.”

Jared Owen with the 500 Sprint Car Tour, said Lorain will allow for the Kenyon Midget drivers to race side by side around the entire track. “There is definitely an inside and outer racing line,” Owen said. “I think the Kenyon Midgets will be able to put on a great show there.”

With three races left in the 2023 season the series travels to the Indianapolis Speedrome on Sept. 30 and closes out the year on Oct. 7 at Anderson with the 500 Sprint Car Tour.

Tanner Tecco is three points behind Dameron Taylor for second in the point season with Kyle Ford holding a comfortable lead for the championship.

Evan Hammond is the leading rookie of the year candidate with a 36 point margin over Cash Wyke and 63 over Kyle Sheard.
