Landon Brown prevails in tight rookie battle

By Ken de la Bastide

For most of the 2024 Kenyon Midget Series the battle for the Redline Ace Rookie of the Year title was fought among three drivers.

Triston Brown, Jett Neal, and eventual rookie of the year winner Landon Brown swapped the top spot multiple times during the year. Landon Brown took control of the rookie standings eight races into the season when Triston Brown missed the race at Paragon Speedway because of a prior commitment.

Landon Brown made five starts with the series in 2023 when a best finish of eighth in the final race of the year at Anderson Speedway.

During the 2024 season Brown scored a podium finish at Anderson Speedway and captured a K&K Marketing Fast Qualifier award on the high-banked quarter-mile oval.

He also scored a podium finish at Berlin Raceway and five top ten finishes during the year.

“I've been celebrating,” he said of winning the rookie title. “Celebrating on social media and congratulations from friends and family.”

Brown said it was fun competing all season for the rookie honors with Triston Brown and Ryan Shilkuski.

“Pavement was definitely my strong tracks,” he said. “The five races we ran last year helped a lot with figuring out the set-ups and how the car handled.”

Brown said he finally figured out the Anderson track and was able to run upfront.

He said the two races at Berlin showed they could run upfront from the 2023 event. “Going into this year we already had a good set-up for the car,” Brown said.

He also likes running on the dirt ovals adding he was competitive but bad luck always seemed to take place.

“Our plan is to run the full season next year,” Brown said. “Hopefully get a few wins and contend for the championship.”
