Landon a part of a father-son team

Landon Brown knows advancing to the Kenyon Midget Series is a big step up in the level of competition for the Bluegrass State racer. Brown and his father, Phil, have been competing against each other for several years in karts and both are competing for the first time with the Kenyon Midget Series.

The 17 year old is a sophomore in high school and is already planning to get a college degree in mechanical engineering. Landon has been racing karts for more than five years, four years on the road course in New Castle, IN and has done some kart racing on dirt for more than 18 months.

“I like racing on both,” he said of paved and dirt ovals. “It's a big step up.”

Brown said this season will be a learning curve and the venues and activities will be different from what the family has experienced in the past.

“I'm looking forward to the dirt races,” he said. “It's learning the car and all the tracks.”

Landon said he will work together with his dad on learning the tracks and set-ups. “Hopefully, I'll be able to compete for some wins like at Berlin because it's a new track for everybody,” he said. “Everyone is going in at the same level.”

Landon won't turn his first laps in a Kenyon Midget until the practice sessions leading up to the first race of the year at Anderson Speedway on April 8.

“I'm looking forward to Anderson,” he said. “Kyle (Ford) told me it was high speed.

“We're in this to have fun,” Landon added.
