Hoosier price reduction and tire limits for 2024
Tire costs are one of the biggest expenses in all forms of racing. For 2024 the Kenyon Midget Series and Hoosier are addressing this issue in two ways. First a reduction in the price of tires from Hoosier, and second the series will implement a limit to the number of tires a team is allowed to purchase.
Hoosier Racing Tires reinforces their ongoing support of the Kenyon Midget Series by providing a significant price reduction on pavement tires for the Kenyon Midget Series. Hoosier has had a long relationship with the series. They continue to provide top quality tires, with compounds that specifically fit the needs of Kenyon Midget racers. The new pricing provides a total reduction on a full set of four tires from $915 in 2023 down to $730 in 2024. The specified pavement tires will see the following price reduction from 2023 prices:
Front Tires (7.0/20.5/13 700) $215 now $175
Left Rear Tires (10.0/22.0-13 MG5) $240 now $180
Right Rear Tires (10.0/23.5/13 760) $245 now $200
The Kenyon Midget Series is also implementing a new tire limit rule for pavement races. Each car will be allowed a maximum of 1 full set of tires for every 2 race events. Tires will be marked and logged when purchased. Then for all official timed sessions, the car will be required to run tires that have been marked and logged. This means these tires must be used for all qualifying, heat races, and feature races. Teams will also be allowed to buy additional tires for preseason practice, or in season test days. These additional tires will not be marked, and therefore can not be utilized in an official session during a race event.
To start the season, teams may purchase up to 2 full sets of tires, to be used across the first 4 pavement races that they participate in. This is to make sure teams are able to have extra tires in case of a puncture or on track damage. Teams will also be allowed to log previously used tires as part of their tire allotment to start the season. Then starting with the fifth pavement race that a car participates in, an additional set of tires can be purchased. And then again an additional set can be purchased at the seventh pavement race.
It is not required that a car run the new tires purchased before a specific event. Teams will be able to utilize any of their purchased (marked and logged) tires at any of the scheduled races. This will allow teams to further manage their own tire costs. They may choose to run used tires for an additional race, to save a new set for a specific race.
It is important to note that tires will be allocated to a specific car (not to a driver). This means that even if there is a driver change in a specific car, that car is still on the same tire allocation. This also means that multi car teams will not be allowed to stockpile tires from one car and use them on another car.
The rules for dirt tires will not change. Most teams are already running dirt tires for more than two races. If tire use starts to become an issue at dirt races, then the series has the option of implementing a similar tire allocation limit for dirt races.
The primary goal of these initiatives is to keep the Kenyon Midget Series drivers on safe quality tires, help all teams compete on a level playing field, while containing costs when possible. The support from Hoosier Racing Tires is critical in making this all possible.
