Harmon returning to his passion
By Ken de la Bastide
When Brian Harmon came to US24 Speedway last year for the final race of the Kenyon Midget Series season, it was for the first time in 19 years. Harmon, 38, finished seventh at US24 Speedway and is planning to run up to five events with the series this year.
“I started racing Quarter-Midgets and the NAMARS Series before I went to college,” he said. “Racing is my passion.”
Harmon received a college degree in aerodynamics and worked for the Haas NASCAR team on quality control of parts and wind tunnel testing. “I helped with the car design,” he said. “Racing has always been something I tried to stay around,” Harmon said. “There is nothing quite like it.”
He said most of the NAMARS races in the past took place at the Indianapolis Speedrome, which is hosting the second race of the season on May 5. “I still remember the brake and throttle control,” Harmon said. “Another competitor last year told me US24 was just like the Speedrome. It's a tight, flat track.”
In addition to the race at US24 last year, Harmon has raced in the past at Lawrenceburg and Bloomington speedways. “Those are the only four times I've raced on dirt,” he said. “It's been a long time since I've been on pavement.
“I'm just really excited to be getting back in a race car,” Harmon said. “There will be a smile on my face.”
He is married and the father of two children and works as a sales representative for a home water filtration company in Dayton.
“I don't know if I will be able to run the full season,” Harmon said. “But I will be happy to run four or five races during the year.”
He has sponsorship help this year from Star Jet Motorsports.
