Father and son team ready for new challenges

By Ken de la Bastide

For the past four years Phil Brown and his son Landon have been racing go-karts on the road course in New Castle, but are ready for a new challenge. The Louisville based race team purchased two Kenyon Midgets from Logan Prickett during the off season. Phil, 54, and Landon, 16, are based out of Louisville and are planning on running the entire 2023 Kenyon Midget Series season.

“We're coming from go-karts,” Phil said. “There were guys that we have been racing with that were going to race with the Kenyon Midgets. That directed us to look at the series,” he said.

Phil Brown before racing a go-kart did Sim racing for 22 years. “This will be a new challenge for us,” he said. “There is going to be a big learning curve. We both graduated from the Skip Barber Racing School and we're both up for all kinds of racing.”

Phil said he is more excited about racing the pavement ovals in 2023 while his son, Landon, is looking forward to the dirt tracks. Landon has been racing for four years and did one year of go-kart racing on a dirt oval.

“They opened an indoor karting place close to where I work,” Phil said. “We did several leagues there and raced several times a week. That's where we learned about the dirt karting and the racing at new Castle,” he said.

Landon is a sophomore in high school and would like to major in engineering in college. “If the opportunity came up, Landon would like to continue with his racing career,” Phil said.

The team receives sponsorship help from 360 Express Collision & Detailing and the Bachman Auto Group.
